The Band

Under the influence of prohibition-era speakeasies, this inspired 5 piece plays a delightful mix of 1920s and 30s hot jazz and early swing.

Imbued with a joyful exuberance, David McTea and the Swinging Magpies perform an intoxicating blend of period jazz standards and original material, lovingly crafted in the vintage style.

The band comprises:

  • David McTea [1] (vocals/baritone guitar)
  • Lucinda Dunne (clarinet)
  • Vicky Cowles (bassoon)
  • Gregory Madge (guitar)
  • Caroline Scott (percussion)

[1] : a one time bootlegger and, if you listen to the rumours, member of the European aristocracy on the run from his destiny as King of Spain.

David is also an accomplished swing and jazz dancer, entertaining the masses and fully convinced that it don't mean a thing if it aint got that swing! Such gifts add an aura of excitement and showmanship to performances and David is always more than happy to provide a friendly and fun dance lesson to break the ice and get your night off to a swinging start.
